HO HO HO by Rossco - 12/16/11 @ 06:00 PM UTC #
It's that time again. I hope you have your cheerful festive spirit equipped. This news post is mainly to let you know I'll be on holiday for a month starting tomorrow. So I'm doing the less-than-responsible thing and delegating my duties to less fortunate members of the community.
Ceol will be in charge of general site maintenance and decisions. I'm sure you're all well aware that he is a very clever man and he is more than capable of doing my job (Which doesn't really consist of much, mind). He usually already does this but it's official now.
As for IRC, I'm leaving ChampionRed in charge of the channel until I get back. He's active almost every hour of the day and will be expected to take a neutral standpoint on all of those little arguments that pop up. No problem. If any controversial bans or something of the sort come up, I expect the other staff to step in and make everything good. I'm sure everything will be just merry though.
Here's wishing all 151chan visitors, regulars and staff a cheery and festive winter holiday period thing!

LOL DUMPS by Rossco - 07/30/11 @ 02:16 PM UTC #
This is just a note to say that we are aware of the "minimum time delay" problem that makes posting large amounts of content unappealing. We are slowly working on a fix. Thank you for your patience.Hey, at least there's no captcha, right? I should probably be using the blotter for this but nobody reads the blotter.

Recent Downtime by ceolwulf - 02/15/11 @ 06:51 PM UTC #
The recent downtime was my decision. We've moved to a different, cheaper, better server. This one is ten times bigger than Facebook's server farm and uses two Googles worth of storage. Hopefully we'll be able to run a 2 person Minecraft server with it.-Ceol

Please note that we added rules for IRC due to constant drama. Check out the Rules Tab above this message. And we finally fixed the IRC tab along with it.Come on guys, 151 is so chill, do we really have to do this?

AND WE'RE BACK by Rossco - 06/12/10 @ 08:19 PM UTC #
Guess who's back? Back again. Sorry for extreme extended downtime. I believe a full explanation is in order. On the 18th of May, our domain name expired. Not a problem, I had already requested a transfer of the domain to 1&1. This transfer took them a week. I didn't even get a confirmation email so I couldn't tell you the exact date the transfer completed, but it took around a week.
After that, we thought we were golden. Despite everybody notifying me that we had been domain-squatted, we were hours away from re-opening the site. 28th May, the site was up for me and Ceol, we just wanted to get the site up ASAP and leave all the new features for a later date. I don't know about him, but after 2 weeks of downtime, I started to get pretty desperate.
The site "officially" launches. Looks fine to me. For some reason, everybody else is still getting the 1&1 parking page. I blame it on DNS propagation. It has to be, right? I've cleared all temp browser files and I can still access the site fine, what's wrong?
May 29th. I look into it some more. I added a few subdomains. Now I see what the problem is. They hadn't pointed the domain's A record (Which is vital, if you don't know) to our new server's IP. The server is still up and serving 151chan goodness, but it's impossible to access it through the domain. I give it a few hours, it might clear up.
Hours become days. Ceol kindly phones up 1&1 support, they apparantly didn't help at all. Then Ceol did what he thought was the right thing. He transferred the domain to another registrar using his own funds. I didn't know anything about it until the tranfer process started. The domain finished transferring this morning, and I log into IRC to see the domain finally pointing to our server. I make the necessary changes to the site to use the domain instead of the IP and now, my friends, you are looking at 3 weeks of work from incompetent registrars and underpaid admins ( ;) ).
Enjoy the site, you've waited long enough for it.
Rossco~
Quick footnote, still not sure if I've configured the email server correctly, if you have anything important to send me, please use our IRC channel instead of email, thanks.
COME IN, COME IN! by Rossco - 05/23/10 @ 05:23 AM UTC #
What a pleasant surprise! Welcome to 151chan of the future!First of all, you're probably wondering why the site was down for so long. Well I can answer that for you. We were moving the site from a teeny tiny shared hosting provider to big bad virtually dedicated hosting. Remember when 151chan was being hosted from a desktop computer in the UK? If not, it was, trust me. That's how far we've come. Sorry for not making a post about this beforehand, I didn't think the downtime would be this long. It's the first time
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our benefactors that provided us over $150, proving that this site is not only community run, but community paid for too. I'm putting "Add donators hall of fame" on my TODO list, expect it sometime next year.
You're also probably wondering where all the news went. "Where is all the old news?" I hear you plea. To answer that, I'd like to point you in the direction of this link, as it has been archived permanently.
We have several awesome projects that we will be unveiling in the next couple of weeks. Technically, they're finished, but we can't show you them for 2 reasons. #1: 1&1 is slow as turd when it comes to domain updates and #2: We'd like to add a bit more polish on them before we release them.
Unfortunately, most of /flute/ still isn't operational, due to being 9/10 of the site's content. You can blame that on the FTP speed of our new host, or you can blame it on us for being slow and not really ready. Hey, we're not paid for this, y'know. We try our best :).
I'd also like to personally thank Wretlechan for setting up a Pokemon board to facilitate various discussions while we were down. Definitely give them a visit if you're into wrestling or Pokemon, which should be all of you.
Finally, I'd like to thank all our staff for working around the clock to make this site a reality, although the posting of content and contributions is far more important than what we do on the backend.
One hundred and fifty one more years!
Rossco~
