I never understood collecting cards like Pokémon. Bugs me too. "Oh you have Pokémon cards! Let's battle! Wait ... you don't know how to play? And you don't want to learn?" *gunshot*

In middle school, a bunch of people played. I usually lost. I was awesome at getting the cards I wanted, though. I was notorious for screwing people.
A few years after it first came out, I made a deck inspired by one which raped me frequently, a Wigglytuff one,
and won a small local tournament. I still use that deck today, for the very occasional battle with a distant friend, or at a con.
This last con in June, I won twice against a random dude with an old school Charizard deck.
But my friend, with new cards, beat me. The new cards are crazy, and admittedly have a lot of superior and useful cards. But I won't buy or use them. I prefer using my old deck, against other peoples' old decks.

Strangely enough, in local card nights where I lived, I took an old deck that I've been feeding since base set until I got bored after Neo Revelations and swept all of the new cards With a mostly base set deck.

I do, however agree that the new cards are insane. I took the latest set's Eevee evolutions into my deck and now people curse loudly whenever they see one of the little things.

Going to worlds in august. Playing in Last Chance Qualifier though, because I didn't get a invite(anyone can walk into a pokemon event for free (except prereleases) and play EXCEPT for worlds, which you have to get a invite from doing good at bigger torny's(LCQ) or from doing good all season and having enough points).

yeah there is set rotation though, next season will be sets in Diamond and Pearl or newer.

Yall should just go to go-pokemon.com and find a local league and go play. You can use your old cards at league (only league though, or unlimited tornys) and if you decide to start playing, go ahead. Almost everyone at pokemon events are nice and will try their best to help you out.

Jungle Pidgeot and Flareon. Then followed by the 1st edition Machamp in the starter set.

Actually, through some research I have found that Stormfront's Dark Rampage (Tyrannitar) deck provides 13 dark energy, and Legends Awakens Metal Surge (Heatran) deck provides 10 steel energy.

This looks like the start of a decent business venture if you can get enough of the decks.
