HG/SS will have a Safari Zone.
This reminded me that there is a beta map for what is guessed to be the Kanto Safari Zone, left unused in the game's data. For those unaware, or forgetful, you can't go in the Safari Zone in Kanto, in G/S.

Well, maybe they wanted to have a Safari Zone in Johto, but they just didn't have the time/space. So now they can finally implement the Safari Zone which they may've planned for G/S.

There's a lot of unused data - music even - in the games. This thread to discuss the unused data, or even the beta versions of the games.
If you guys don't know about any of this stuff, I could post more images/linkage/info =]

As for post placement,
I was thinking /con/ ... but this board needs to be used more, and this post seems more 'hax' anyway.

Oh, btw: Map is the unused 'Safari Zone' map.

Unused data? Like the music track in Platinum which is a rehash of the RSE title screen? (Which indicates to me that a Gen 3 remake is already in the works...)

I gotta say, Gen 2 is alright, so HGSS should be cool, but as far as which one I enjoyed the most at the time, I personally think I liked my Sapphire best. But that's neither here nor there...

GS ball plz.

Also, from bulbapedia, "There is also an unused event script, complete with text, which would allow a different event for a level 40 Entei, analogous to the birds in Generation I."

And-"Code and text remain for yet another forgotten feature, the ability to name the player's mother"

Sweet honey was originally supposed to be in GenII...

Would you be willing to link me to where you got the info and file, regarding the rehash'd RSE intro screen music?
Speaking of Gen III, here's a sprite for Gastrodon from RSE.

And yeah, if you wanna have a Fav Gen discussion, head on over to /con/ =3

I'm confident thee GS Ball is going to happen for the US, finally, because of the popularity of the new Mystery Gift.

And personally I think it's amazing that Honey came all the way from beta G/S to finality in DPP.

For those not going to the wiki page, more on unused script in G/S:
"Space is reserved in RAM for two other names as well, which default to RED and GREEN — the player character and rival from Red and Blue.

The Bird-type from Generation I remains in Generation II. This is presumed to be a carry-over from the Generation I game engine, as Gold and Silver are based on it. Also returning from leftover Generation I code are Town Map and Pokéflute items. Both are named "Teru-Sama" and are unusable, but if hacked to have a use option, the Pokéflute will still function, and the Town Map will attempt to. However, given that the map data is no longer compressed and stored in different location, the Town Map item does not function properly."

I guess I should include the Shellos one, too.

That reminds me, in R/B, the variables that held the Player and Rival name defaulted to NINTEN and SONY respectively. Good old localisers.

I got the info and files from here:
http://forums.ffshrine.org/showthread.php?t=59707

Basically it's a test track which was left in the game's data, sort of like how RS had the "classic pokemon center" and the different beta tracks in them, Platinum had a beta track which was a rehash of the Title screen from RSE.

A good place to check out info about stuff like this might be the "beta game" pages on bulbapedia- they've got info about most (if not all) of the unused stuff, early develpment, etc. on the various games.

Another bit of old unused data I'd love to see implemented (and expanded on) is the SURFBOARD item in the red/green beta, which allows one to surf without a pokemon who knows the move. HM replacement items would be SWEET for people like me who hate having to carry along multiple useless HM slaves in m party when you walk around.

"Apart from maps, other prototype discoveries include a mine cart image in the cave tileset, and a second card-flipping Game Corner game"

There's a lot of unused stuff in second gen, makes me wonder how much stuff didn't make it into gen four...

This dialogue is interesting. Maybe Ecruteak was supposed to have a pharmacy instead of Cianwood? Cause, ngl, Cianwood has always looked last minute thrown together to me.

I took some screenshots of the safari zone a few years ago,

No wild pokemon. You can fish for Krabby, Kingler, and Corsola.

I've got a GBC gameshark, but I've never used it. Where do you get this, and other, G/S codes?

Can't seem to find the walk through walls code right now, but here's another way.

I just might use those names in HGSS

It IS the Kanto safari zone. When exiting it, the player appears outside the building in Fuchsia city.

I'm just wondering why they put it in Johto in HGSS. Why not use the one in Kanto?

Yeah I learned that after I posted ^^;

Maybe some explanation will take place in the game. But I'm thinking that: We've already had the Kanto Safari Zone, and we know what it looks like. A new, unique Safari Zone is new and exciting and fresh.

So that the player can have access to it earlier in the game.
