http://kotaku.com/5499697/nintendo-announces-new-hardware-the-nintendo-3ds

Press release:
"Nintendo will launch 'Nintendo 3DS' (temp) during the fiscal year ending March 2011, on which games can be enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses.
'Nintendo 3DS' is going to be the new portable game machine to succeed 'Nintendo DS series', and will include backward compatibility with Nintendo DS series, including DSi."

Iwata:
"[It will have] highly detailed graphics, and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing."

Dezmond just informed me of this miraculous news. First thing I said was, "This has to be an April Fool's Joke.". We can only really speculate until they show it at June's E3 [as I predicted ;) ]

How will the DS hardware change? I wonder if it'll just look like another phat/lite/i. The Game Boy series didn't really change much, besides the screen. The only big change-up was the L/R addition with GBA, and the horizontal orientation of the original model GBA [and Micro].
Also wondering if they'll name it something else, since "3DS" is shown as 'temporary'.

Oh - well, I'm going to assume both screens will have multiple input-point touch capability. I also just heard some speculation that, when open, the screens will be right next to each other - almost seamless. Incase you haven't read my thoughts elsewhere, it's also going to be around Gamecube strength according to Nintendo's handheld patterns thus far.

Indeed - we knew about that. Anyway, new info:

-Nintendo "plans to give the new system a 3-D joystick and a force feedback mechanism that will let players feel the collisions of a game character."
-3DS will feature improved wireless communication speed and battery life, but that its dual screens will be slightly smaller than that of the Nintendo DSi XL
-Nintendo is "considering" adding an accelerometer for tilt-controlled games.
-may take advantage of 3D LCD screen technology

The picture in first post is fake right? Who the heck made a fake picture so quickly xD.

If they add an accelerometer, there should be the ability to turn it on or off.

It's absolutely fake. I thought that was obvious.
I think the new features will not be used extensively, and as I've read: mostly first-party games will use them to the max [like Phantom Hourglass is pretty much using every hole on the DS in a fun way].
There'll be plenty of 'regular' games.

I just didn't want to assume and have someone make fun of me ;_;

Guess it was a lose lose situation

Just the "table" it's on is enough to tell me this is a render at best. Since when did wood-grain appear pixelated in the real world?

Oh god, they had better not use 3DS as the official name, that'd just be terrible. N3D sounds fine, though.
