I was citing battery life based on activated features so that if you did happen to be going on a road trip with no available outlets, you could simply knock down the brightness or 3D to get more play time out of it. Besides, it's almost guaranteed that a car charger will be released at some point in the future. It's hard to imagine a place where you have absolutely no access to a charging port for over a period of 5 hours.
>> No. 1583
>>1582
A.) I wouldn't want to give Nintendo even MORE money for one of their overpriced car chargers.
B.) Most of the time I don't want to worry about being near a wall charger, because while I don't play for numerous consecutive hours, I do play for at least 5 hours without charging, over a period of 1 to 3 days. So it's not a matter of playing it all at once, it's a matter of being able to play whenever I want to, without having to worry about charging the damn thing.
and C.) There are people who go camping and bring their DS's, with no access to power outlets. What are they gonna do? I don't know about you, but my family uses tent to camp, and not trailers with power.

tl;dr: None of that bullshit matters, the battery life is still a major issue.
>> No. 1585
>>1583
A.) You can always buy 3rd party chargers, they're generally cheaper yet just as effective.

B.) It is still necessary to worry about charging a normal DS/DSi, as it will be for the 3DS; the increments will simply be shorter. It is not terribly difficult to make a habit of charging it more often while you're not playing, considering that you're not clocking in a whole lot of consecutive playtime on the device. For the games that are coming to the system, I think it is worth putting in a little extra effort to have access to them.

C.) That is a very situational example, and such instances do not happen often under most circumstances. However, if you do happen to be a person who does a whole lot of camping and portable system playing, it's your decision whether or not it would be wise to take games with you on your trip. This could be applied to any console, not just the 3DS, depending on the average lengths of your trips.

I don't think the battery is as massive an issue as you make it out to be, it'll just take a bit of getting used to.
>> No. 1586
>>1585
I agree it is not a massive issue, but I know Nintendo can do better.
All in all it's just another nail in the coffin to me, but whatever, that's just my opinion.

since the price of this thing has yet to be announced and it's been bugging me I took it upon myself to make the best guess I can.

using wikipedia for the pricing of current DS models in JPY and USD and xe.com for currency conversion.

I converted the price from yen to dollars and found the percentage for every model released. I then found the average percentage and multiplied that by the projected price of the 3DS in yen (¥25,000) to give me the North American release price in yen. converted that to dollars and got

226.4196 USD

so. my guess for the 3DS price is $229.99

Seriously, where's Kid Icarus Uprising? Where's OoT? What happened to Star Fox? What happened to the games we were actually getting excited for?!

Honestly, just give me those three games and I can sort through the rest of the inevitable shovelware on the system just fine, but this is a disappointing launch list, unless of course they're waiting to surprise us right before launch. It just kinda sucks that I'm going to have a 3DS on launch day, only to have it shelved and collecting dust because it can't even hope to compete with Black/White or Skyward Sword at the moment, which I've also got preordered and paid off.

I will of course be willing to revise my above statements if the 3DSware store has VC versions of some good oldies like we saw in that tech demo at E3. I'm looking at you, Megaman 2!

So it seems we'll be getting it in the launch window, which means before E3. Pretty awesome.

Siliconera goes Hands-On with Cave Story 3D:

>While Cave Story 3D will have stereoscopic 3D effects, those were not implemented in the build I played. Actually, Quote was still a sprite!

This makes me think it's very likely that we'll be able to play the original version of the game as an unlockable or something similar. Also, the hint about an NIS America cameo of some sort at the end of that article probably has something to do with this:

I didn't really mind the Wiiware version all that much, though it does seem that a lot of fans despise it, and I've been trying to figure out why that is so. It seems that the majority of complaints fall into one of two categories: too much change or not enough. To address the first, you can set almost everything on the game back to how it was presented in the original, bar the translation (which may or may not have been bad, depending on how attached you are to the fan-translation). As for the second instance, the port added new graphics and music (which they patched up recently), easy and hard difficulties, and new game modes including Sanctuary Time Attack, Boss Rush, and the ability to play through the game as Curly Brace. Although some of these could have been implemented better, it is meant to be a port.
Now, I'm not classifying you into either of these categories without hearing your position, I'm just pointing out a trend. I'd love to hear your opinion of the game.

Anyways, Cave Story 3D looks very promising to me. I'll reserve my full judgment until the composer is revealed, but so far everything looks very refreshing and new. Combined with the promise of new content, it's definitely something to look forward to. </optimism>

And these games are supposed to make me want to play the 3DS?
>> No. 1708
there has never been a single system that didn't have shitty launch titles
>> No. 1709
>>1708
Why shouldn't the 3DS be the exception to that rule though? It shouldn't be acceptable that all consoles have shitty launch titles, we've just gotten used to it. They could have held back the system until it had some real games to play, but they're releasing it now to maximize profits.
If we don't want shitty launch titles, then we as consumers need to do something about it. We need to tell the companies that we won't buy their products if they're going to be like that. I for one want some goddamn quality with my technology, not just more shovelware.
>> No. 1710
>>1709
They're releasing now to establish a better relationship with 3rd party developers, which has been a problem on the Wii and less so on the DS. Major sales come from 1st party Nintendo games on Nintendo consoles, and it swamps out most efforts made by the 3rd parties, so instead Ninten is releasing the 3DS with no major franchises to give the other devs a good chance at making lots of sales. This might also explain why the company is putting it's new, very niche IP out ahead of all their big games. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo has Kid Icarus and OoT 3DS complete and they're just waiting to release them.

Another reason that has been been mentioned by many Nintendo executives is that they want to spread quality games throughout the first year of the console's lifespan. The system's launch window is three months long, and they plan to have a major 1st or third party title coming almost every month until the end of the year.

>>1709
I am personally getting Super Street Fighter IV at launch and perhaps Steel Diver if I need something more. Past that, I'm waiting on the Devil Survivor and Cave Story remakes till E3.

Makes sense, but it would still be nice to have at least one of the awesome games they promised.

I think both of the next gen handheld consoles are extremely disappointing though. The PSP 2 is looking underwhelming, and both systems are too goddamn expensive. I dunno, I just expected more of a jump between generations, like with the transition from GBA to DS. Although I had hoped they wouldn't find another gimmicky feature they could shoehorn in, but look how that turned out.

Game Gear: 5 hours

For a system that is built around wireless functions, I foresee battery life being a big problem which will certainly be addressed in future revisions, almost necessarily by making the shell bigger.

Same trailer as this one, except it has some subtitles. Not super necessary though. If you already know that Ceres has to eat beast flesh to survive, then you won't learn much from it. Still cool though.

One line in particular intrigued me.
Main char says, "Is this... the master?". I wonder what that could mean, and if it was referring to the specific beast that was on screen at the time.
