First we'll see interest, then maybe we can make a friend code thread.

If you have pictures from your game, you can share them here. I have a bunch of Brawl pictures =]

Oh shush. They're both fun.
I'm a total fag, though, and I prefer Melee too =P

I prefer Brawl, but Melee requires a bit more skill, due to faster falling speeds. Also, it lacks Ike's speech.
"I fight for my friends"
WORST. LINE. EVER. From Ike at least.

It also lacks Ike in general, which is a thumbs up for me.
Who else thinks the Brawl theme sucks, despite the constant praise of it by players? Melee's was soo much better.

I saw it coming. I was raging about Jigglypuff's nerfing and loling at the people flying into shitfits over Fox.

First I need to say that, supposedly, Mewtwo's polygons/sprite/textures/whatever are in Brawl, along with Roy. Or maybe it's just Roy. Maybe others - haven't heard of them.

For a few months after Brawl's released, I was convinced that Mewtwo was still in Brawl because of a trophy shadow.
I was very disappointed that he was left out, however, I am glad he was. New and different is superior to old and the same. I would rather have, say, Deoxys in Brawl 4, than Mewtwo for the 3rd time. (I don't like Deoxys, but I've seen it suggested as a char.).
Which leads me into: Switch out some characters, Nintendo. Geez.

You should also consider what kind of nerfing would've been done to Mewtwo. Or maybe there would've been little, like G&W.

>>118
Come now. They're very similar.
I'd enjoy seeing a hax'd fight of Young Link vs Toon Link.

Fox is still awesome. I've got a 'Fox FD No Items' Melee friend who owns with Fox in Brawl.

I'm not about to let a perfectly good Smash Bros. thread die out. Not on my watch.

There are many ways in which a thread such as this can go wrong, so I'll try to keep things going with some simple questions. Bear in mind that my mindset is primarily one of SSB Brawl, though comments about Melee or 64 are welcome. ANYWAY:

• Who is your favorite character to use?
• Who is your least favorite character to use?
• Who is your least favorite character to fight against?
• Do you prefer stock or timed matches (or others)?
• Do you typically fight with items?
• Assuming use of a Gamecube controller, do you make heavy use of the C-stick?
• What is your favorite (Nintendo designed) level?
• What is your least favorite level?
• If you could add any one part/feature to the level editor, what would it be?
>> No. 255
• Who is your favorite character to use?
Ness
• Who is your least favorite character to use?
DK
• Who is your least favorite character to fight against?
Ice Climbers
• Do you prefer stock or timed matches (or others)?
Goddamn stock, set to 4, every time.
• Do you typically fight with items?
Everything but the Hammer(s).
• Assuming use of a Gamecube controller, do you make heavy use of the C-stick?
Hell no. A + Joystick are the only smash attacks.
• What is your favorite (Nintendo designed) level?
Green Greens (Melee)
• What is your least favorite level?
Lylat Cruise (Brawl)
• If you could add any one part/feature to the level editor, what would it be?
Larger range of items and maps, and the ability to make 'scrolling' stages.

Adding one question:
• What is your favorite song from the franchise?
I'd answer Melee's Mother 2 theme.

• Who is your favorite character to use?
Brawl: Marth. I like others, but he's basically part of my hands. When I can't Counter (using other characters) it feels... weird.
Melee: Marth+Samus
• Who is your least favorite character to use?
Jigglypuff (lack of familiarity, and I have created/learned no strategy with it)
• Who is your least favorite character to fight against?
Toon Link / R.O.B. / [Captain N.'s] Fox
• Do you prefer stock or timed matches (or others)?
Originally I didn't even notice or care, until I learned about tourneyfaggotry. Now, when I practice at home, I do Stock 3. When I play with other people, those 4 and 5 stock matches seem too long.
• Do you typically fight with items?
Not in Brawl, but recently, in order to get all the extra crap by having items on, I turn on Mr Saturn and the Franklin Badge.
Mostly I turn on my Wii, and practice until I get sick of it. I forget that there are items (also forget ZSS exists) and so... I have little experience with them.
I know the ins and outs of Melee's items, though.
• Assuming use of a Gamecube controller, do you make heavy use of the C-stick?
I use both. For different characters, it's different. Marth I def C-Stick you a lot.
• What is your favorite (Nintendo designed) level?
Pokémon Stadium [Melee] ... okay okay okay ...
Fourside [Melee] - I'm actually very fond of it, 'specially the music
• What is your least favorite level?
Brinstar Depths [Melee - secretly I am in love with it]
• If you could add any one part/feature to the level editor, what would it be?
• What is your favorite song from the franchise?
[all Melee]
Dr. Mario
Depth of Brinstar
Green Greens
Fourside (as I said)

Adding one question:
• Which character(s) do you want to get good with?
-Mewtwo-
Pokémon Trainer
Ness
Zelda

• Do you typically fight with items?
pretty much everything except hammers and final smash
• Assuming use of a Gamecube controller, do you make heavy use of the C-stick? Heck no, A + joystick all the way
• What is your favorite (Nintendo designed) level? Hyrule castle (original SSB)
• What is your least favorite level?
The fire emblem level in brawl
• If you could add any one part/feature to the level editor, what would it be? zero gravity lol
• What is your favorite song from the franchise?
Mother 2 theme [melee], Luigi's mansion.
• Which character(s) do you want to get good with? Jigglypuff, Link[brawl].

(I suppose I'll add a question as well)
• What are your favorite Taunts from the series?
-Young Link *Milk drinking*. Captain Falcon "Show ya moves"

My turn now. Again, assume Brawl unless otherwise noted. I can talk about SSB for longer than is healthy, but I'll try to watch myself for everyone's sake.

• Who is your favorite character to use?

· Mario and DK come up a lot, but my favorite BY FAR is none other than Ganondorf. I'm not especially proficient with him, but when you can choke and boot people like that, win or lose, you're having an absolute blast. That, and Thunder Drop (Down aerial).

• Who is your least favorite character to use?

· Marth, oddly enough. Sword characters aren't really my thing, but something about Marth's weight just throws me off. P'raps I could trouble you for some pointers, Mr. Red?

• Who is your least favorite character to fight against?

· Mr. Game & Watch. Between the down aerial key, the down smash hammers, and that wretched turtle, G&W is a two-dimensional maniac. Even when he's beatable, it's still not fun.

• Do you prefer stock or timed matches (or others)?

· Stock, all the way. I've started a trend amongst my friends wherein the stock limit is set to two, rather than 3-5.

• Do you typically fight with items?

· Nope.

• Assuming use of a Gamecube controller, do you make heavy use of the C-stick?

· Not typically. For reasons unknown, I use it to initiate Pikachu's down smash almost exclusively.

• What is your favorite (Nintendo designed) level?

· Yoshi's Island - Neither too complicated (Rumble Falls) nor too simple (Final Destination). It's wonderful.
· Big Blue [Melee] - To explain why I like Melee's Big Blue over Brawl's would make this already gargantuan post far too long. Maybe I'll explain later.
· Hyrule Castle [64] - No explanation required.

• What is your least favorite level?

· Tough call. I'd say New Pork City. All of size of Hyrule Temple without any of the fun.

• If you could add any one part/feature to the level editor, what would it be?

· I'd like the ability to make, well, ground. Even if you line the bottom of the editor screen with blocks, you can still get around and under them. Selecting the player start locations and breakable blocks of varying toughness also come to mind.

• What is your favorite song from the franchise?

· "Metal Mario Battle" [64]
· "Planet Zebes" [64]
· "Brinstar Depths" [Melee]
· "Marionation Gear"

(If you need a reminder, hop on over to /flute/.)

• Which character(s) do you want to get good with?

· I'd settle for "any," but I'm always looking to improve my Ganondorf game. I'd love to work on Zelda, but my friends refuse to fight me when I use her. (No, I don't spam side-B.) Otherwise, I round out my list with Peach.

• What are your favorite taunts from the series?

· Captain Falcon - Any, you can't miss
· Ganondorf - The sword (There's a story for that...)
· Wolf - The howl

I'll be a jerk and tack on yet another question:

• What are your feelings on slipping?

· It happens just rarely enough that I don't flip out. Usually.

I could go on and on, but I'll spare you. For now.

There's a lot to discuss, now, if we go through each others' answers and respond to stuff. I know I want to respond to certain things, but that takes effort and time. Maybe more tomorrow.

>>263
>P'raps I could trouble you for some pointers, Mr. Red?
Marth IS light - it's the tradeoff for his speed. Marth KO's at low percents, if you don't know how to DI or recover. Thankfully there are a few ways to recover. In Melee it's different, but for Brawl, you can either
-Dancing Blade toward the stage (Marth's cool direction +'B, B, B' dance, or,
-Hold B until it's fully charged an unleashes. This sends Marth zooming forward. You can only really use this when you're high up enough, though, since it takes time to charge+finish.
-Course, up-B auto-snaps Marth to the stage edge, if you know where to do it at. If a person is edge hogging, you can nick them with it and reclaim the ledge. Also, if an idiot is standing near the edge, you can up-B at the right spot and bypass grabbing the edge, damaging them and returning to the stage.
TL;DR, you have to play around with him.

Time for some counter-derailment measures.

Smash Bros., in my experience, has a tendency to "grow" differently among various groups of players. What about you folks? Do you and your fellow players have your own terminology or nicknames for things? Do you have any "traditions," to use the term loosely (taunting at the start of a match, etc.)? Are there any styles of play that you uniquely use (like a special brawl/melee + item setup)?
>> No. 279
>>278
I don't get to play against people, as I isolate myself from the world.
But the one guy I do play with semi-regularly... he and his friends have come up with their own terms for things. I prefer to use the tourneyfag terms from Smashboards, because to me, that's like the dictionary, and can be recognised by all.

One way I like to play is whoever wins changes characters.
I like having both players on random, after we've used our best characters 20 times in a row and I've gotten killed 90% of the time.

I only like 1v1 - I can't handle 4 player. It's too darn chaotic.

I wouldn't taunt at the start of a match ... lately I've been trying to tone down my taunting, and leave it only for [the end of] a victorious match, or perhaps after I've executed a skillful move.

Pokémon only, Pokémon Stadium (or other Poké-Stages), Pokeballs.
Amirite? I personally love this setup. You can do this with any of the franchises, making it a themed battle.

I've been using Ike on and off since Brawl came out, but I haven't learned any cool tricks from the online community.

Seriously haven't created a way to effectively beat skilled Snakes. Haven't looked on Smashboards yet, though.

Ike tips? Hmmm.
Ike's air moves are typically a lot better than his ground options, so approach enemies aerially with N-Air (best option) or F-Air (killing option). You won't get outranged by much because, well, look at the size of that sword! B-Air has some great killing power if you can land it.
Up-Smash is godly, use it and love it as much as you can :D
Counter is meh and too slow for my liking, try not to use it.
Learn the ranges on Quick Draw by heart and stop short if someone tries to dodge around you and start the A-A-A combo.
Reverse Aether! It's brilliant.

Generally with Snake I try to stay all over him, waiting him out won't work because he'll start being gay with mines and C4 and grenades. Grab, smash, and follow. :/ Not much else do to. If he uses that camera to get back on the stage you can hit him with a DAncing Blade combo if you're Marth and make the third hit Down, and he'll go flying back into the abyss.

MGA is truly awesome, as is that pic.

Interestingly, I had just heard about and started B+ when I came to see this thread again, and... Holy shit. AWESOME. The charater balance seems more like balance and less like Sakurai saying "let's make my games' characters fuckwin, everyone else can eat a dick."

The best thing though is that it has allowed me to pick up different characters and be proficient. I never would have dreamed of using someone like Weegee, but now I'm passable with over half the ensemble. One downside is that my Pika is nowhere near as good anyomre. I think it has to do with jump momentum ruining my spacing for thunderjumps.

Also, Q&A time (assume Brawl as B+):

• Who is your favorite character to use?
Brawl: Lucario. Hands down, although TL is a close second now.
Melee: Young Link. I liked link in S64, and YL played most like him to me. Plus, he didn't have a taunt that made you question what he was doing with the male Kokiri at night.
Smash64: Link. I liked the versatility your items gave you, and for me it more than made up for his shortcomings, like how easy he was to edgeguard against.

• Who is your least favorite character to use?
Brawl: I can't seem to adjust to the fact that Marth has no easy combo moves. I'm not *bad* with him, but I can feel that I'm not playing him right, and can't seem to fix it.
Melee: See Brawl.
Smash 64: Ness. If only because of Saffron City.

• Who is your least favorite character to fight against?
Brawl: Pit. Most of my mains are projectile heavy. Any character with a reflector is already on my bad side. A reflector that doubles as an impenetrable advancing attack? Fuck you, Pit.
Melee: Not so much a character as a specific person. A friend of mine is absolutely rapetastic with Melee, and no matter who I choose, Nul always manages to pull off the win. Since Nul tends to play Yoshi, I guess I'll go with that.
Smash 64: I can't say I had anyone I loathed to face off against, but I certainly didn't look forward to fighting against a Pika. Spammy neutral-B made advances tough on me, and I could never get it right.

• Do you prefer stock or timed matches (or others)?
Brawl: Actually, I do a combination of both: four stock with a seven minute time limit (you'd be surprised how often this actually comes down to Sudden Death)
Melee: three stock
Smash 64: Unlimited time matches just to have fun all night long.

• Do you typically fight with items?
Brawl: No, not except for (rarely) smash balls, and only then for shits and giggles, never for real play.
Melee: Nope.
Smash 64: Fuck yes. For me, S64 was more about chaos and havoc with a whole group of people, so items helped add to it.

• Assuming use of a Gamecube controller, do you make heavy use of the C-stick?
Brawl: Not so much. My friend (Nul again) has actaully shown me how setting your C-stick to specials instead lets you do some pretty nasty (and unexpected) things with Yoshi's egg-throw however. Mostly if I C-stick, its for easy use of odd aerials, like upwards-moving dairs back-moving fairs, etc.
Melee: C-STICK IS MY GOD
Smash 64: What is this C-stick you speak of?

• What is your favorite (Nintendo designed) level?
Brawl: I love the new Stadium. The updraft section especially. My TL rapes there, without a question.
Melee: Murder me for it, but I actually like Temple.
Smash 64: Two words: Hyrule Castle.

• What is your least favorite level?
Brawl: New Pork City, simply because I always end up as the unlucky sap who ended up pratfalling right when the Chimera shows up. ;_;
Melee: Big Blue. The moving floor. I hates it.
Smash 64: I was never too fond of how unseemly difficult it was to get a KO on Peach's Castle stage what with the bumper above, the sliders on the side, and that huge oscillating platform below.

• If you could add any one part/feature to the level editor, what would it be?
The ability to make grounded levels. Platforms are fine, but I'd kill to be able to make a fully-grounded level without the ability to go beneath it.

• What is your favorite song from the franchise?
Smashing Live, Pokémon Medley. The Smashing Live Zelda track comes in a close second.
• Which character(s) do you want to get good with?
Ness. I'm getting better and can really see his strengths, but I still have a tough time using his recovery.

• What are your favorite Taunts from the series?
I really like S64's Link taunt, and was overjoyed to see it back, even if I rarely end up using him. Other than that, call me a massive faggot, but any of Lucario's, simply because he's a badass.

• What are your feelings on slipping?
The no tripping code is the single best thing that Ocarina has done for Brawl. Moves that induce trips, such as (obviously) Diddy's banana or (less obviously) Lucario's Force Palm are fine, but random tripping is (or was, more like) a load of shit.

Heh, that's all for me now; see ya'll later!

Chack out all this Brawl hack nooberey!
You guys can go so far as to make your own movesets for characters.

I'm working on one right now!

Also,
A fellow who goes by Pharrox is working on 3D model replacing and is NEARLY done with it.

When he realses it I forsee Mewtwo and Roy being added to Brawl.

CHACK IT YO!

Really? They finally got to 3D model replacement? Good news! Now if they can get the clone engine up and running, then we can save all of these neat custom movesets without sacrificing an entire character.

Characters such as "Wisp." It's pretty darn neat, if I do say so m'self. Check its moveset out here:

I'm not really a fan of 'wisp', but I suppose it's a good leap in the right direction.

Do you guys play online with people?
Sometimes I have really great experiences. I had a Lucas/ROB that I was partners with, and would fill my G&W's buckets, among other things. It's too bad you can't befriend the people you find on wifi.

So watching the Subspace Emissary videos - they're pretty darn epic. I think that portion of the game could have been so much better if they had added game-specific enemies instead of just generic poops. They also sort of changed the whole franchise by revealing Melee/Brawl to be [a new universe?] in which the characters you play as are not little toys, but are actually characters in some alternate universe.

Also, SSE=Kirby with Smash characters.

Sakurai is also the bastard responsible for intentionally unbalancing the game's characters, making stages to be unfair to certain characters, and tripping.

Also, Meta Knight. I wonder who's franchise the only god-tier character in the game comes from?
