So, today was my little sister's "holiday" party at school, and she was kind enough to volunteer me (of course, why ask me first, right?) to bring my Wii to provide entertainment for a class full of junior high kids.

I at least was able to find out a little in advance, so I asked the teacher to get a list of names and, long story short, I organized a 16 player single-elimination bracket. Used Brawl+ rather than classic Brawl, and saw some interesting fights. One of the kids nearly took me out in the finals; he was damn good with Toon Link (ditto match at FD first match), and the only reason I won was because he didn't use his items enough. Still, it was a good tourney.

Anyone else have Brawl/Brawl+ tourney experiences they'd like to share?

Oh, and for those who are interested, this was our stage list:
Starter:
-Battlefield
-Final Destination
-Smashville
-Yoshi's Island (Brawl Version)
-Halberd
-Lylat Cruise
-Pokémon Stadium (Melee)
Counterpck:
-Castle Siege
-Brinstar Depths
-Delfino Plaza
-Frigate Orpheon
-Jungle Japes
-Pictochat
-Pirate Ship
-Pokémon Stadium 2
-Rainbow Cruise
-Luigi's Mansion
-Norfair
-Green Greens

We played four stock, eight minute matches; best two of three advances. Nearly every starter match happened on Battlefield, FD or Halberd after striking, and the rest tended to stay in Starter territory, aside from Pictochat and the occasional Luigi's Mansion or Jungle Japes.

Final round was me and the aforementioned TL guy, who gave my own TL (double blind picks end up that way sometimes... >_>) a hell of a match, one for one. Final round I pulled out my best main, being Lucario, and it was still a close match the whole way; he had me down to one stock at 60'ish percent at the end of the round. In all, everybody had a good time which, considering I was more or less conscripted to go, was a pleasant way for things to go.

So again, anyone have experience with tournaments and want to tell?

Lucario's a weird main. Have you memorised all his increases/decreases and such? Pretty chaotic and dynamic character to use.

I've taken part in 2 or 3 convention tournaments. Always lose out on first or second round. I like to think it's because I'm not serious enough about the game. I don't learn all the tricks on Smashboards, I just know real basic things. In my own user tier, though, I like to think I'm pretty decent.

Most recent tournament was at the end of October at Youmacon. On their forums, I met a guy and had been exchanging a lot of messages. Pretty cool dude - likes Pokémon and EarthBound.
Well he also entered this tournament, one of two Brawl tournies that weekend. First match was HIM AND ME! xD
The TVs had REALLY bad lag because of something having to do with lack of HD TV hookups. Lag isn't a problem for higher level players, but for more casual people - it's really annoying and screws you up. Lag meaning: You press A, and the action executes half a second later.
The friend I met mains Ness, with an alternative of Marth. He ended up using Ness, and I ended up using Marth since Marth is the only thing that gives me a chance. Well, I lost. It ended up being close, but I'm going to use a john and say that without lag, it would have certainly gone a bit differently.

I'm sorta doubting Captain N. will read this, so this is his match from the tournament (there isn't a video of mine):

I think he's pretty skilled with Ness. Normally Captain N. uses Fox, but he couldn't handle the lag (see: not advanced player) so he used Ness.
Captain N. thinks he's pretty good because he kills his friends locally, but when it comes down to it, he just doesn't attend real tournaments so he loses against advanced players. I pick on him about this a lot. Even though I'm even less skilled than he is =P

Lucario's a cool main, and no: I've memorized the general scaling of it, but IIRC it's a pretty constant increase all the way to maxing out at near 186% so I just go by that. I know that by the time I'm slow to rise off ledges, my opponent's about to be in some real pain from Aura boosted attacks.

My friend had organized an all night party at his parents house, and I was helping him sort shit out since I live close. I was in charge of sorting out a music playlist for the party, getting an immense amount of energy drinks and munchies from the corner shop. To be honest, I'm glad we had enough drink, because I wouldn't of been able to carry that along with the other stuff.

Anyways, sometime during the party, my friend brought his Wii down from his room and epic shit started going down. After about 2 hours of Mario Kart and Wii Sports Resort, I started asking around if anyone wanted a Brawl tourney.
Got about 12 people in total to join in. 1st round was 3 matchs with 4 people in each, best 2 go to next round. 2nd round was 2 matchs with 3 people, best 2 go through. 3rd was 2 1 on 1 matchs. Final was 1 on 1.

Rules were anything goes, but you must stick to one character all matches, 5 stock, no time limit. With Ike I managed to get to the 3rd round until I came up against a guy who used Snake. At the end, he had 2 stock and 120ish damage. I'm good with Ike, being my main, but I find it hard dealing with good Snake users.
The final was the Snake Guy and a girl using Pikachu. Interesting match to say the least. Mostly for the stuff happening around the screen. Bets were going on, for money, weed, booze and I even heard someone saying they would strip and dryhump the Snake guy if he lost. I can't remember the score, but Snake guy won. And I got 20 pounds and made some guy chug what was left from a bottle of vodka. Good times.

Sounds like our Snake bro practices. People don't just go casual with Snake - they play a lot, and get good.
